Bettering the Profession: Chaplain Dan Roberts contributed a chapter on developmentally appropriate spiritual care for the book Paediatric Chaplaincy: Principles, Practices and Skills. “It is an honor to be able to represent Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s in this way. Being invited to contribute to this book is another example of the respect and high-level, quality care that we have been able to achieve at McLane Children’s,” says Chaplain Roberts. He plans to continue contributing to the growing body of academic work in pediatric chaplaincy.
Remembering and Honoring
OMM hosts many different types of services. One holding special significance to patients’ families and staff is the Annual Remembrance Service for patients who have passed. These gatherings take place at various locations and help families find closure. Those in attendance find healing as their loved ones are honored and memories are shared. In FY2018, 29 memorial services were hosted throughout the System.
“It has been helpful to hear other people’s stories because it has helped me to see that I am not alone in my grief.”
— Annual Remembrance Service attendee
Other services offered by BSWH chaplains for holy days and holidays include Martin Luther King Day, Ash Wednesday, Easter, National Day of Prayer and Veterans
Day. Patients and staff are invited to participate, express gratitude and fulfill their worship needs.
Attendance at Special Services Attendance at Special Services
BSWH chaplains and partners in spiritual care are aware of meaningful observances across faith traditions and their impact on patients, families and staff, and work to find ways to support them. BSWH offers sacred spaces at medical centers throughout the System open to all for prayer, meditation and quiet reflection.
