Cutting and trimming are two very basic processes that affect every print job at some point in its journey to completion.
Generally, cutting refers to the separation of stock into smaller sheets, whereas trimming is the process of removing
paper from around the edges of the sheet. Cutting and trimming is not limited to these descriptions – for example,
corners are rounded, not trimmed.
There are many different tools available for cutting and trimming—paper guillotines, three-knife trimmers, rotary
trimmers and corner rounders—just to mention a few. Cortech has equipment ranging from large high-speed
programmable cutters down to small manual or electric desktop trimmer options available to help make your cutting
quick and effortless.
BOARD / SUBSTRATE CUTTERS
FEATURING: EXCALIBUR 5000
Board and substrate cutters are most commonly used in sign shops but can
also be found in print shops where wide format printing is offered. They can cut
a variety of rigid, semi-rigid and flexible media, and substrates such as foam
board, corrugated plastic and aluminum.
There are many variations available with board/substrate cutters. Options
include straight, rotary, scoring and v-shaped blades with some cutters able
to hold multiple blades at one time. There are table top, wall mounted and free
standing models, many of them available in more than one cut size. Cortech
has a complete range of top-quality substrate cutters available as well as work
benches to turn your cutting bar into a cutting system.
GUILLOTINE CUTTERS
FEATURING: EUROCUT 73
Guillotine cutters allow for fast, easy, accurate cutting of a large stack
of sheets into smaller finished sizes and Cortech has a paper guillotine
to meet every need.
Paper guillotines range from manual operation models to
programmable, hydraulic powered cutters and are available in sizes
from 16" to 188" widths. Features available with Cortech’s guillotines
are adjustable clamp pressure, safety light curtains, automatic blade
and clamp return, and air table blowers. They can be stand-alone units
or designed to run in-line with other finishing equipment. The size of
guillotine needed in a print shop is relative to the amount of printed
output and no matter whether you are cutting small format or large
format, Cortech has a guillotine to handle your print jobs.
