Dubai Creek walls to undergo AED112 million restoration project

A significant restoration project is underway to repair and rebuild the historic walls of Dubai Creek, a vital waterway that has
withstood the test of time and nature for more than half a century. Announced by Dubai Municipality, the Dh112 million initiative
aims to fortify the creek against potential flooding during extreme weather conditions and ensure the smooth operation of
commercial traffic.

The project will be executed in two phases, with the first focusing on a 2.1km stretch along the Deira side of the creek. This phase
involves dividing the area into sections and working on them sequentially to maintain uninterrupted access for docking ships. The
subsequent phase will target a 2.3km length on the Bur Dubai side, enhancing the infrastructure to support the creek’s role as a
crucial artery in Dubai’s economic and social prosperity.

In addition to structural repairs, the initiative will install 200 anchors along the creek to improve navigation safety and service
facilities. Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, highlighted the project’s importance in bolstering maritime
security and supporting the emirate’s economic growth. The improvements are also part of a broader effort to address climate
change risks and rising sea levels, with technical studies guiding the construction designs to meet global standards for marine
infrastructure.

The 14-month project timeline includes comprehensive work on the Deira pier, involving the replacement and repair of damaged
concrete sections, extending the wall’s depth to 8 meters, and raising its height to 3 meters.
