as usual dennis “crab” Landry emceed the
show, but this year a surprise for crab was
organized by the beautiful angie “crab Bait”
Vasquez. She came up with the brilliant idea to
add a group of ladies dressed in matching outfits,

Larger than life characters that would perform a special dance in crab’s
– Ron Alexander, Dennis honor. of course she aptly named the group the
Hom, and Crab
“crabettes!” the crabettes performed a dance for
the crowd with tunes such as Flat Bottom girls and
girls Just Want to Have Fun. the look on crab’s face
when those ladies came out was priceless. even his
dog charlie was dressed in a coordinating outfit. Have
you ever seen a dancing dog?
Like a stampede of mustangs from afar, dust
billowed from an oval dirt track especially prepared
for the ever-so-popular mini bikes. the rule was the
last man, woman or child standing was the winner.
after several rounds of elimination, the checkered flag
was flown with the proud champ derrick turk, age 16,
taking his victory laps around the track. Yes, a 16-year-
old beat several grown men and a few ladies too.
the rat rodeos were as crazy as ever this
year! they’d first excite the fans and intimidate the
competition with a fierce burn-out before running
down the drag strip. Waiting for the tree to turn
green, the look of concentration on their faces was
priceless. as they took off, the tires spun and the
crowd screamed with joy. Who doesn’t like to hear
the roar of an engine going down the strip? after
many runs down the track, they made their way to
the burn out pit. this was a free style event pitting
these showmen against each other. Who would rev
up the crowd the most? Who would burn the tires
down to the rim? Would it be Brian Falgout’s drifting
rat red rocket or ron “mr. Sparkz” alexander’s rat
crab Killa? What do these nicknames mean you ask?

all, in all this year’s atomic Blast turned out to be
phenomenal! even though we had to wait longer to
attend, it was well worth it. the question is: Who’s
ready for the next round? - neecy
