The paint scheme is the brainchild of Roy’s buddy
Mike Turk. A graphics guy by trade, Roy gave Mike the
truck for few days and said, ‘do something cool’. Given
total carte blanche, he came up with this cool bomber
theme, which was all done by hand.
It’s a small world. When Rat Rod Magazine Director of
Photography Jerry Ripley met Roy for the shoot, there
was a glimmer of mutual recognition between the two
guys. They soon realized that they used to work together
in the same body shop - Roy doing the body work and
Jerry laying down the shiny.
So what does Roy think of his fi rst rat rod? “It ended
up being more fun to drive than I thought it would be. It
rattles and bangs and makes noise like an old hot rod. It’s
got the gauges under the dash and reminds me of what I
used to drive when I was a kid. It’s a hoot to drive. A real
blast. I drive it to work as much as I can.”
