Something else that I see that gives me hope for the future of this
scene: I have never seen more interest from our youth in old school
hot rods than right now. It’s catching on folks – rat rods have helped
to spark something in the young adult population that was being
snuffed out by “rules” and limitations placed there by a stuffy “look-
but-don’t-touch” generation of “car guys.” It’s coming full circle, back
to the days where there was a sense of creativity, a sense of freedom
                                – where you just had FUN with what you had, you were creative…
you enjoyed the comradery and the “coolness” of it. If you happened
to throw a Chevy engine in a Ford, so what. If you had some dents,
mismatched fenders, or no fenders at all – it just really didn’t matter.
If you were tearing through town or conquering America’s backroads,
                                you were living.
Isn’t that amazing that we can recapture that spirit? We can do this
now… almost anywhere, and at our own pace – our own way.
Before I sign off, I want to acknowledge something equally
profound. Over the last couple of years, we have lost some automotive
legends. Most recently the Leadslinger, as well as some of our close
friends. People who have affected us in many ways, on many levels. It
comes with age, it comes with tragedy. It’s hard. It’s extremely hard. I
just want to honor these fallen friends, these larger-than-life-fi gures,
and those who we don’t even know… who have helped to make what
we do what it is today. The Pork Report reads in tribute to one such
man this issue, Steve Tate, and I would like to personally salute our
fallen friend Shaun Bell. Two guys who touched the lives of those
around them, and who will never be forgotten.
Cherish those around you, the time we have, this community
we have, and please remember to enjoy life. Don’t sweat the little
things – they aren’t worth it. The people? THEY are worth it. Build,
                                drive, ENJOY.

                                                                                        - Steve
