You and your buddy
are sitting out in
the garage, knocking
back a few of your favorite
brews and laughing about life,
when one of you starts talking
about getting that old Ford
pickup running. You know, the
one you've got behind the barn,
hiding in the weeds and tall grass.
The one the family of raccoons
have been living in? Ya, that one.
Ideas start fl ying around like
moths around a lamp post. Rebuild
the engine, get it running, bag it
and enjoy. Chop the top, lose the
bed and put a huge engine in it.
Then it hits you like a lightning bolt...
“Gasser!” Your buddy knows where he
can score a blower for the engine he
has in his garage. All you have to do is
pull the truck out of the weeds, evict a
few raccoons and you guys are golden!
This is what was running around my
mind while I was building 'Spyder'.
I wanted this to look like it could have
been built in someone's garage. Nothing
fancy, nothing over the top, just a straight
forward, purpose built truck that could hold
its own at the drag strip.
I kept the body stock with the exception
of the tilt front end. The fenders have been
plasma cut at the cab and welded to the grille
surround. A small tube cage was installed
in the front to help strengthen the front end
and help protect the blown Chevy, just in case.
Since the truck had been setting for so long,
the bed had rotted away. So, a piece of sheet
metal welded in place does the trick.
