ARTIST PROFILE:
he guys of Blue Felix look like if you met
them in a dark alley, they’d eat your face
off – but don’t let their gritty appearance
Tfool you. Behind the stage-paint and masks
are some of the nicest people you will ever meet.
We’ve already introduced you to multi-talented
frontman Jake Crooks and his fabrication shop,
now let’s look at his other “metal” work.
Blue Felix was formed in 2003 and like
everything Jake lays hands on, the band’s name
has a story behind it: “In the 90s blue Felix was
a “brand” of LSD. There were different variations,
blue, green, yellow. And dancing Felix was a little
paper hit of all colors combined with a stamped
Felix cat head on it. I had always loved the name,
and was a fan of the blue. It also subliminally
related to Pink Floyd. (Blue/Pink, Felix/Floyd)”
While the music has evolved over the years,
the heart of the band’s sound has always been an
aggressive, dark, in-your-face undertone powered
by Jake’s towering vocals. Each of the band’s
4 studio albums have their own identity while
remaining inherently Blue Felix. The lyrics are
usually deep and the songs meaningful… there’s
either a statement being made or an emotion
being shared; almost like you’re reading a journal.
“I’m driven to make music by the experiences in
life, relationships, passion, love and hate, the beauty
of life and our inevitable demise. It’s just a way
to leave my fi ngerprint or my mark on the world.
People I haven’t seen in years will wonder what
I’ve been up to, how I’ve been. I’ll give them a CD
and say everything is in the lyrics. The lyrics are an
explanation of the evolution of my life, my music,
my art and my existence.
