principle. You need that positive caster
for the bike to handle right and the same is true
with a Hotrod.
One concern that I get more emails about
than any other is the question of death wobble
you get with a straight axle. A straight axle will
handle just fine if it is set up properly, unless your
king pins are worn out. The main keys are good
king pins, positive caster 6 - 10 degrees, and
two additional things that will totally change the
picture. One is a pan hard bar mounted from the
left side of the frame to the center of the back
side of the axle which will pivot on eyelets, and the
second is a steering slave unit mounted from left
front side of axle to center of tie rod. These two
items will eliminate death wobble. If it still wobbles
after the pan hard and slave units, you have worn
king pins, or slop in the tie rod ends. Back to
installation, tighten all of your grade(8) 1/2” bolts
and nuts down to specs and you’re ready to rock
and roll. Go to RingRods HotRod Shop on the net,
and click on menu and scroll down to traverse
spring instructions, or go to Youtube to find the
same video, and it will clear up a lot of confusion.
