ARE YOU MILKING THIS?
How many of us have worked with someone who is never happy and everything that happens in their life is because of someone else? They don’t have the job they want, they can’t get a job, they aren’t making the money they want, they got divorced and it’s always because of someone else.
I call it the ‘poor me’ syndrome. This syndrome occurs during the moment when we first realize there is a definite benefit to sharing the story of how unfortunate we have been in order to receive attention and sympathy. Being a victim can have good payoffs, after all. It also excuses you from the effort of trying, doesn’t it?
Dr. David Hawkins recommended putting a sign up on the mirror where you could see it every morning that reads “Yours is the saddest story I’ve ever heard!”
