P. 74

Maybe you don’t have to look very far. Often, married couples will sit down to the dinner table and exchange details of all the drama they encountered during their workday. You may not have ever met the receptionist’s husband, but you know he lost his business a couple of years ago, right after he went through that sticky custody battle with his ex-wife.
Why do you know these things? Have you ever stopped to wonder?
The Seeker of Secrets
“Don’t worry. Your secret is safe with me.” Five minutes later you’re on the phone with your brother, relaying every last detail. “So, apparently there’s some trouble in Bob’s business. His former employee is suing him.”
Do you find yourself wanting to be “in the know” about things that have nothing to do with your immediate life? Aha. Another version of an addiction to drama has been discovered. There are so many more scenarios I could give, but you get the idea. In the book, The Four Agreements, it talks about being impeccable with our words. This isn’t just so we’ll become more likeable people. When you are intentional about the things you say, you’ll also be more aware of the things you hear.
There’s an acronym that uses the letters of the word ‘think.’
Before you speak, T.H.I.N.K. Is it True?
Is it Helpful?
Is it Inspiring?
