Marc Drews is EdVenture's Director of Experiences and Education. He joined
the museum in 2012 and supports its engagement of its visitors and groups
through public programming, programs for student groups, events, and
camps. His career began in 1976 as a high school mathematics teacher,
followed by serving as a district-level consultant in Charleston County. In
1987, he accepted a position with the SC Department of Education where he
spent over two decades working in a variety of leadership positions.

From 1996-2002, he led the NSF-supported SC Statewide Systemic Initiative
that established the state's regional infrastructure that led the advancement
of STEM education in South Carolina. He directed the work of the Governor's
Math and Science Advisory Board and served as the State Superintendent of
Education's designee to the Governor's School for Science and Mathematics'
Board from 1992-2002. He retired on Pi Day 2008 but returned for a pair of
eight-month stints, finally ending his time with the agency in 2011.

Marc has been a long-time advocate for teachers and their involvement in
professional associations. A life-member of the SCCTM, he served as the
president of the organization in 2018-19. He was honored by the SCCTM as a
two-time recipient of the Outstanding Contributions to Mathematics
Education Award in 1993 and 2021. In 2008, the SC International
Baccalaureate Organization recognized him their highest award for his
support for global education and, in 2015, he was the recipient of the SC
Science Council’s prestigious honor, the Catalyst Award, for contributions to
             science education.

He proudly identifies his greatest roles as being a husband, a father of three
adult children and their spouses, a grandfather of seven wonderfully
imaginative young people who range from 3 to 13 years old, and the human
             friend of Lilly.
