with Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha So-
rority, Inc. to host the 1st Annual Women’s Conference
entitled: A Look in the Mirror: Today’s Women on the
Move. The conference took place on October 15, 2016
at the AK Arama Foundation Community Service Cen-
ter. Featured speakers were Rai Barney, Career Strate-
gist and owner of Optimal Placement Services; Lauren
Ward, author and owner of LWOO Enterprises; Lamar
Butler, Financial Group; Sheree Franklin, Executive
Coach, speaker and entrepreneur; Lady Shanita
Akintonde, Professor at Columbia University; and Sena-
tor Mattie Hunter. There were over 50 women in at-
tendance.

                                                              tion, Inc. is a busy chapter directing its attention to an
                                                              area of low income families in need of assistance.

                                                              Top Ladies and Top Teens hold their monthly meetings
                                                              at the West Broad Street YMCA. As an urban associa-
                                                              tion, this YMCA relies upon donations, grants, and
                                                              community support. It is located in the inner city area
                                                              near two low income housing projects.

                                                              TLOD’s partnership with the YMCA has spanned for

Area IV                                                       29 years. As an in-kind service to TLOD, the YMCA
                                                              provides meeting space to both Top Ladies and Top
                                                              Teens and space for committee meetings. They partici-
                                                              pate in yearly clean-up projects and the Back to School

                                                              The chapters participated in the KaBoom Build a Play-
                                                              ground project for the youth at the YMCA. During the
                                                              year, TLOD and Top Teens participate in the Miracle
                                                              on May Street, a toy give away for Christmas and the
                                                              Heart and Soul of May Street. The YMCA holds a Fall
                                                              Festival around Halloween, and the Ladies and Teens
                                                              are there to lend a hand. During the summer when the
                                                              pool reopened, TLOD and Top Teens donated towels
                                                              for the swimmers.
