Dr. Dorothy Irene Height
Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. Honorary Member
The United States Postal Service announced on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, the
new subjects for the 2017 Forever stamps. Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. honorary
member and the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) 4th National
President and National Chair, Dr. Dorothy Irene Height is on the 40th stamp in the
Black Heritage series.
The stamp features artist Thomas Blackshear II’s gouache and acrylics on board por-
trait of Dr. Height. The painting is based on a 2009 photograph shot by Lateef
Mangum. Art director Derry Noyes designed the stamp.
Dr. Height was one of the most influential leaders of the 20th century, who dedicated
her life to fighting for civil rights and gender equality. However, her best is know as a
devoted and accomplished leader, who served at the helm of NCNW for over 50
years.
During the 17th National Syn-Lod held at the Palmer House in Chicago Illinois, Dr. Height became the fifth Top
Ladies of Distinction, Inc. honorary member. This is a proud moment in Top Ladies o Distinction, Inc. and the
National Council of Negro Women, Inc. history and is a lasting tribute to Dr. Dorothy Irene Height.
The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. is one of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. national projects with fi-
nancial contributions to this organization with all chapters support.
