BioPak was also awarded the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation’s Outstanding Achievement in Leadership award in 2019 for undertaking a number of impressive sustainability initiatives including the development of compostable packaging for single-use food service items.
Joe Foster
Joe Foster, managing director of OF Packaging, is widely considered the indus- try’s expert on flexible packaging and an entrepreneur who has run four businesses across four countries over the last forty years.
Foster has spent the majority of his career working to not only understand flexible pack- aging at its core but progress the possibilities of flexible plastics with a continued focus on packaging innovation. Foster’s contribution centres on his resoundingly passionate atti- tude towards flexible packaging and his depth of knowledge and expertise, which he is intent on passing on to the wider industry.
Foster sees beyond what flexible packag- ing is, to what it can be, and aims to create an evolved understanding of flexible pack- aging and the place it holds in society. His goal is to improve the relationship we have with flexible packaging and plastics, help- ing inspire new respect for packaging and improving consumer and waste behaviours along the way. His significant contribution to the industry has been recognised with a Fellowship to the AIP, the Industry Packaging Professional of the Year Award, and the World Packaging Organisation’s WorldStar Lifetime Achievement Award.
George Ganzenmuller
George Ganzenmuller is innovation man- ger at Opal Packaging (formerly Orora
Fibre) and considered by his industry peers to be an expert in fibre-based packaging. He holds multiple patents and has won numerous packaging design awards.
Ganzenmuller has been instrumental in the Australian Institute of Packaging for over twenty five years and is a past presi- dent, state chairman and national board director. And as if that contribution is not enough, he is also a Certificate in Packag- ing tutor.
Ganzenmuller has worked in the pack- aging industry for over 30 years and has extensive expertise in primary and trans- port packaging, regulatory compliance for packaging, packaging systems and prod- uct innovation.
He has been recognised for his extensive knowledge and significant contributions to the packaging industry with the presti- gious AIP Founders Award as well as an AIP Fellowship.
Raphael Geminder
Raphael (Ruffy) Geminder, non-executive chairman of Pact Group, has been at the forefront of the sustainability and packag- ing industries for more than 25 years. In 2002 he founded Pact Group, today a lead- ing player in rigid plastics. Prior to this, Geminder was the co-founder and chair- man of Visy Recycling, growing it into the largest recycling company in Australia.
Geminder’s entrepreneurial leadership has seen Pact Group grow from a $200 million largely industrial packaging- based supplier in 2002 to a $1.8 billion innovation group in 2020 with one unwav- ering focus – to lead the circular economy. As Australasia’s largest recycler of plastic resin, Pact Group operates across the whole circular economy to deliver smarter scaled solutions throughout the packag- ing world.
At the 2020 National Plastics Summit, Geminder announced that Pact had cemented its leadership position in the cir- cular economy by making a commitment to significant investment in existing and new facilities over the next five years, with the company working collaboratively with government and like-minded partners to invest over $500 million.
Jason Goode
Jason Goode, merchandising systems and packaging lead at Reece Group, has worked in the packaging industry for over 20 years and is known by his peers for always giv- ing his best to the packaging technology profession. Not only does he possess a sound knowledge of the science of packag- ing, he makes an effort to share that knowl- edge with the wider industry.
Goode’s support of the Australian pack- aging industry has been a hallmark of his career, which spans over 20 years at Amcor, Simplot and currently at Reece Group. He has played an active role in the Australian Institute of Packaging (which has recog- nised his contribution with a Fellowship), the former Packaging Council of Australia and the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation – of which he is currently a member of the executive board.
A notable contribution by Goode was his leadership of a team from the AFGC, AIP, major packaging companies and FMCG businesses to produce a standard for packaging specifications. This system is based on having standardised informa- tion required for a digitised industry. This standard for packaging specification will ensure not only savings for busi- nesses but uniform communication between packaging technologists to drive the value that data can add to the busi- ness through having it available, usable, secure and accurate.
