Overview
                                                                               Project References
W.T. Rich was hired to manage the construction of two additions to the existing Owner
1926 building; an 11,800 SF, three-story classroom addition over a renovated Stephen Pizzimenti
parking garage; and a 3,100 SF, multi-purpose assembly space between the Director of Strategic Projects
existing 1926 high school and 1914 middle school. Additional scope of work Boston Collegiate Charter School
included mechanical and architectural renovations to the existing building 617-282-6710
along with new windows and site improvements.
                                                                               Designer
The project was located on a tight urban site within the middle of a residential Steven Thomas
neighborhood. Extensive communication between our team and the Senior Project Manager
neighborhood was critical to the success of this project. W.T. Rich updated Miller Dyer Spears, Inc.
residents weekly of all construction activities that would directly affect their 617-338-5350
street and flow of traffic. Additionally, given the tight site and restricted area
for project materials, our project team meticulously planned and coordinated all OPM
project deliveries to ensure materials were being utilized in the most effective Margaret Wood
            manner. Project Director
                                                                               Pinck & Co., Inc.
                                                                               617-216-5760
            Highlights and Challenges

Some of the project’s highlights and challenges included:

            • Safety is W.T. Rich’s first priority on every project. Working in and around the occupied school, our team worked closely
with the BCCS staff to ensure proper communication and scheduling of all disruptive construction activities, keeping all
students, faculty and staff members safe at all times.
            • Tying the existing 1926 building into the new addition required maintaining a three-inch gap between the two structures,
allowing for safe movement within their natural elements.
            • Located within the center of a residential neighborhood, communication was key. Residents were updated on a weekly basis
and notified 3-4 days prior to major deliveries or work that would shut-down or disrupt traffic flow on their street.
            • The building’s new AHU was delivered in five sections in order to be able to fit through the basement and boiler room
doors, lowered down into the boiler room, and coordinated with the location of the new boiler that was already installed.
Our team worked closely with the architect, MEP engineers and HVAC contractor to confirm the AHU unit would fit
through all doorways and that installation was seamless.
            • Structural steel installation of the multi-purpose assembly addition within the existing courtyard was a real challenge due
to limited site space. Structural steel was picked directly from the delivery truck and routed over the existing building and
secured into place. This was coordinated and completed during school vacation.
            • Additional scope included modifications to the existing building, which was coordinated with BCCS during their summer
break. Work included re-routing and installation of new fan coil units and piping into existing classrooms.

            Results

W.T. Rich was able to achieve substantial completion and certificate of occupancy on schedule by December 2018, and classes
            began shortly thereafter.
