their manager or HR. A credit check may also be conducted depending on the employee’s position
within the organization. Background and credit checks may be conducted annually on Executive and
Finance employees. In addition, background and credit checks may be conducted on other employees,
with their authorization, as deemed necessary by the President and/or CEO.

               Business Attire
APUS considers it very important that employees are well groomed, neat, and dress appropriately for
               the job function.

               Office Environment
Appropriate dress and hygiene are important in promoting a positive image to our internal and external
customers. Employees reporting to work dressed inappropriately may be sent home to change. The time
will be unpaid or paid utilizing the employee’s vacation time. Special circumstances such as participation
in a planned move of furniture or equipment in the building may warrant casual attire, with prior
manager approval. Conversely, there may be activities that necessitate management to require
professional attire for a specified period of time (e.g., accreditation site visits).

               Meetings with External Contacts
If employees are conducting or attending meetings, seminars, roundtables, etc. where they come into
contact with business professionals, they are expected to represent the company in a professional
manner and dress appropriately for conducting such business. Employees are expected to use strong
discretion pertaining to these situations, and management may provide specificity regarding
expectations for attire in these situations. Employees are expected to comply with these requirements.

               Attire Guidelines
Business casual attire is intended to be comfortable, attractive and neat. Employees who are uncertain
of the expectations regarding appropriate attire within their department, or for their job function,
should discuss these issues with their manager. Gaining clarification of departmental expectations, and
utilizing stellar judgement as it relates to the appropriate business attire, are vital to the employee’s
success. Specific attire guidelines may be determined at the discretion of department management.

Fridays: Employees are permitted to wear jeans, APUS attire, and athletic footwear on Fridays, unless
otherwise directed. All other aspects of the APUS business attire policy will remain in effect.

Inclement Weather Days (Delayed Opening): Occasionally APUS will determine that a delayed opening
is prudent for the safety of employees during inclement weather. On days that a delayed opening is
declared, employees may follow the “Friday” attire policy.

Requests for modifications to this policy as a reasonable accommodation for a person with a disability, a
medical reason, a religious belief or as required by law shall be directed to HR for additional
               consideration and discussion.

               Charitable Giving Requests
Employee and external community requests for charitable donations will be handled through the APEI
Office of the CEO. No employee may pledge charitable contributions from the organization without the
express approval of the APEI CEO.
