P. 3

Dear Friends,

For over 30 years the Y in Central Maryland has helped to relieve the pressure that families living in poverty
experience by ensuring their children are set for success in school and life. As the largest provider of Head Start
services in the state, we are proud to be recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a
Head Start Center of Excellence in the nation.

The 2015/16 financial year was a period of tremendous progress for Y Head Start and Y Early Head Start. By
delivering another year of exceptional service to children and families in Baltimore City and Baltimore County, we were
positioned to receive a $15 million, five-year grant from the Federal Office of Head Start to operate and expand our
programming in Anne Arundel County. The grant—which came into effect in July 2016—made the Y the sole provider
of Head Start programming in Anne Arundel County, serving more than 356 children and their families.

Needless to say, this success would not have been made possible without the support and dedication of our
exceptional associates, volunteers, and partners. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their
inspiring commitment toward building a healthy, happy Central Maryland community, one child at a time.

                       All the best,

John K. Hoey Erica Franklin Alan Cason
