Rumah Limas

Rumah Limas is a traditional house from Palembang, South Sumatra. It
represents the culture, social structure, and artistic values of the Palembang
people. This house is famous for its unique architecture, spacious rooms, and

detailed decorations.

Inside Rumah Limas, there are several rooms with specific functions. The
Gegajah Room is the main and central room. It is used for meetings and
traditional ceremonies. The room is decorated with many carvings on walls, pillars,

ceilings, and cupboards, making it the most ornate part of the house. Another

important room is the Bride’s Chamber, which is for newly married couples. This
room has a raised floor called amben and a wooden box called boteken, which
stores traditional herbal medicines.

Other rooms include the Family Head Room for parents, the Keputran Room

for sons, and the Keputren Room for daughters. These rooms contain wooden
beds, carved furniture, and storage spaces. The Family Room is a large area
where family members gather, eat, and talk together. In the past, meals were

served in wooden containers instead of tables and chairs.
