PSPE President’s Message—2017-2018
In an increasing complex world, full of unique challenges, the role of the professional engineer is vital to
protect the health, safety, and well-being of the general public. The Pennsylvania Society Professional
Engineers (PSPE) – Lincoln Chapter has been working tirelessly since its inception in 1946 to protect the
general public and its members by promoting the Professional Engineering license with all of the
associated education, experience, and responsibility. I am proud to say that I have been a member of
PSPE Lincoln Chapter for 6 years. During my membership I have served as Second Vice President, Vice
President, and am honored to now be serving as President.
On behalf of PSPE-Lincoln Chapter, I would like to thank you for volunteering and attending today’s PA
State MATHCOUNTS Competition. PSPE is honored to sponsor this event that promotes advanced learning
of mathematics in middle school students.
To all competitors, best of luck here today and in your future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Grant A. Anderson, P.E. PSPE Lincoln Chapter President (2017-2018)
The Lincoln Chapter of PSPE
The Lincoln Chapter of PSPE was formed in 1946 after the Legislature of the Commonwealth had passed
more stringent laws pertaining to the state examination and licensing of the engineering profession.
Lincoln Chapter was so named by its founders because Route 30, the “Lincoln Highway,” served as the
major connecting link between Adams, York, and Lancaster counties, the area that describes our chapter’s
geographic boundaries. There are a total of 22 chapters of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional
Engineers (PSPE).
The Lincoln Chapter has actively pursued its original goals of safeguarding the public through emphasizing
the qualifications and ethics of those doing engineering work, bringing to public notice the importance
and achievement of engineering projects and encouraging the training and development of future
engineers. Our 200 members have long been associated with the sponsorship of scholarships to college
engineering students and the support of the annual Science and Engineering Fairs. Lincoln Chapter has
been involved with MATHCOUNTS since its first year in 1984 and sponsored its first Regional event at
Armstrong in 1985. Lincoln Chapter also sponsors the annual Bridge Building Competition. Lincoln Chapter
founded the York County Science and Engineering Fair in 1983 and provides judges and special awards for
both the York and Lancaster county science fairs.
In 2005, chapter members founded a local unit of the ACE Mentor Program to serve high school youth
who are exploring careers in architecture, construction, or engineering.
