Mr. Rothman was very firm in this particular meeting and
insisted that it was either the twenty million dollar deal or noth-
ing. As mentioned before, Mr. Pellicano stormed out of Mr.
Rothman's office and I could hear him say, "No way," and
"that's extortion." Mr. Pellicano had a: go for what you know, or
shoot your best shot, attitude towards Mr. Rothman.
This was the final meeting concerning the settlement ne-
gotiations in which Dr. Chandler was seeking financial com-
pensation from Michael Jackson in exchange for not going
public with his allegation of child molestation. Dr. Chandler
was confident that being armed with a hypothetical letter of
advice that was solicited by Mr. Rothman from a reputable
psychiatrist, and the threat of going public with this humiliat-
ing allegation, was enough to move forward.
