Negotiations Halted!
It is my guess that if Michael Jackson were guilty of the
allegations, he would have paid the amount requested and
this information would not have come to the public's atten-
tion. Instead, Michael Jackson, armed with a professional team
of lawyers and investigators, conducted himself as one would
who was not only innocent, but disgusted at the mere allega-
tion of child molestation. Michael Jackson had to have been so
disgusted with the allegation of child abuse that he was will-
ing to stand firm and endure the humiliation of the allega-
tions just to keep his accusers from succeeding with their
scheme.
Immediately after the August 4, 1993 meeting, Mr. Rothman
began negotiating with Mr. Pellicano for a screenplay writer
offer which initially consisted of five million dollars for four
screenplay writing deals. Mr. Pellicano and Mr. Rothman con-
tinually made phone calls back and forth discussing the de-
tails of what would be acceptable for each of their clients. Mr.
Rothman was very careful not to say too much over the phone
because of Mr. Pellicano's reputation of being able to record
telephone conversations.
The negotiations then shifted to Mr. Rothman's office on
August 9th between Mr. Rothman and Mr. Pellicano. I recall
Mr. Pellicano coming to our office, but the meeting took place
behind closed doors. It was later reported that this was the
meeting in which Mr. Rothman expressed Dr. Chandler's re-
quest for a twenty million dollar movie deal.
