5. The Number of Noun
According to the number, nouns are of two kinds – singular and plural.
1. Read the following sentences:
(a) A boy was throwing a stone at a bird .
(b) Some boys were throwing stones at birds .
The nouns boy , bird and stone stand for only one person, animal or thing.
They are, therefore, said to be in the Singular number .
The nouns boys , birds and stones stand for more than one person , animal
or thing. They are, therefore, said to be in the Plural number .
2. Most nouns form their plurals by adding -s to the singular:
