12. The Conjunction
Conjunctions are joining words. They are used to join words, group of words or
sentences.
Examples : (a) I like grapes. I like apples.
I like grapes and apples.
(b) Gaurav is an intelligents boy. Gaurav passed the exams with
good marks.
so
Gaurav is an intelligent boy he passed the exams with good marks.
Some commonly used conjunctions are and , or , but , , because , since , unless ,
if
till though although and yet.

Use of Some Conjunctions
1. Use of ‘because’ : Sarah did not come. Sarah was ill.
Sarah did not come because she was ill.
2. Use of ‘and’ : I like apples. I like mangoes.
I like apples and mangoes.
3. Use of ‘but’ : Suman can speak English. She cannot write.
Suman can speak English but she cannot write.
4. Use of ‘otherwise’ : Work hard. You will not succeed in life.
Work hard otherwise you will not succeed in life.
5. Use of ‘or’ : Pawan is a dancer. Pawan is a singer.
Pawan is a dancer singer.
