                         Alper Erturk                                        Currently, he holds the G. W. Woodruff Chair in Mechanical Systems, and is
                                                                             a Professor at the G. W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering and
                                                                             the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Georgia Institute of       25
                                                                             Technology, Atlanta, GA, USA. His research interests have been in micro
                                                                             machined acoustic and opto-acoustic devices, medical ultrasound
                                                                             imaging bioanalytical instrumentation, and atomic force microscopy. He
                                                                             has authored more than 50 U.S. patents and 100 journal publications. Dr.
                                                                             Degertekin was an Associate Editor for the IEEE Sensors Journal and
                                                                             currently serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on
                                                                             Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control. He also serves on the
                                                                             Technical Program Committee of the IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium. He
                                                                             received an NSF CAREER award for his work on ultrasonic atomic force
                                                                             microscopy in 2004, and with his students, the IEEE Ultrasonics,
                                                                             Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control (UFFC) Society 2004 Outstanding
                                                                             Paper award, and most recently the IEEE UFFC Society 2014 Carl Hellmuth
                                                                             Hertz Ultrasonic Achievement Award.
