Tips for Writing a Thesis and an Outline
Develop a thesis and an outline from your prewriting, but don’t be
afraid to add new material if you have new ideas.
Decide on the points you will cover in your essay and the order in
which you will present them. Then write a tentative thesis.
If you have listed your thesis points, check to make sure that they
are parallel and do not overlap.
Finally, make an outline by writing a topic sentence for each body
paragraph and, if you wish, briefly jotting down a couple of the
major points you will discuss in the essay.
