Endings are difficult. Courses end with the
pressure of exams. Weekends end with Monday
mornings. And for many writers, the ending of an
essay is the hardest part to write. However, the
etiquette of concluding an essay, like that of
ending a telephone conversation, is simple: Keep
the goodbye short and don’t introduce any new
information that keeps the other person hanging
on too long.
