Margins should be one inch all around. One-inch margins are the
default on most word processing programs, so you probably will not
have to set the margins at all. Set the line spacing to “double.” Leave
the right edge ragged rather than justifying it. (To justify means to line
up in a straight edge, like a newspaper column. Most word processing
programs have settings that allow you to justify, but these settings are
not commonly used for academic work.)
Formatting the Document
Put your name, your professor’s name, the name of the class, and the
date in the upper left corner of the page. Other information, such as
the name of your instructor or the class for which you are preparing
the assignment, is optional. Center the title and indent each paragraph
as shown in the sample that follows. A title page is not necessary
unless your instructor asks for one.
