Effect Essay
1. Does the introduction draw the reader in and give
any necessary background?
2. Does the thesis clearly state whether the essay
will discuss causes (reasons), effects (results), or
both?
3. Does the topic sentence of each body paragraph
remind the reader that another cause or effect will
be discussed through skillful use of transitions
(another reason for . . . , a second effect of . . .).
4. Do the details in each body paragraph clearly
describe the cause or effect? Are the details
convincing?
5. Does the conclusion bring the reader back to a
thesis-level overall view of the subject and
reinforce the cause or effect?
