organization to fund this change. You tell Kate that the cost to relocate the fleet
cars is coming in below projections, so that is an area that may help fund this
change request.
Jason presents the change request at the next CCB, and it is approved. Kate made
funding available if the costs exceed the contingency reserve.
You issued an RFP to procure a moving company service to perform the office
move. Your selection criteria were as follows: references from recent moves of
similar size, delivery dates, and cost. The contract was signed with the moving
company after a round of negotiations with them to agree upon delivery dates and
times. The moving company responded to the RFP stating they could meet the
dates and then wanted to change them during the contract negotiation. You and
your procurement officer stuck to the terms of the SOW and the RFP and told
them they had to meet the delivery dates stated in the procurement documents or
you would find a different moving company.
The project is well underway, and some offices are packed and ready to go. Some
fleet cars are already moved to the new garage. You are not using an Agile
methodology to manage this project but do find parts of Agile beneficial such as a
daily standup meeting with the key stakeholders. A couple of minor issues were
brought out at the standup meeting. They were discussed and resolved almost
immediately. If they had not been discussed at the standup, the issues could have
caused problems or potential delays. You decide to implement standup meetings
in future projects during the Executing phase.
Summary
As we discussed earlier in the chapter, things change. Changes come about for many
reasons and may take the form of corrective actions, preventive actions, and defect
repairs. An integrated change control system manages change requests, determines the
global impacts of a change, and updates all impacted portions of the project plan when
a change is made. Typically, a change control board is established to review and either
approve, deny, or delay change requests.
Integrated change control looks at the overall impact of change and manages updates
across all elements of the project plan. Scope change control includes understanding
the impact of a scope change, taking appropriate action, and managing a process to
review and approve or reject requests for scope changes.
Organizational changes can bring about impacts to your projects as well as the
organization itself. Internal reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, and
outsourcing can all bring about changes to the project.
The procurement processes are used when you are purchasing goods or services for the
project outside of the organization. You might use an RFI, RFQ, RFP, or PO to procure
