you to elaborate upon your disappointment and bitterness. This letter
should be brief, to the point, and positive. Make sure to check your
employing organization’s rules about resignations and giving notice. The
sample letter we provide is for our firm, which requires a two-week notice.
On your way out the metaphorical door of the organization, never forget
that you have no idea who is working there who might be able to lock or
unlock the door to a position you want in the future. Be gracious in your
resignation, and don’t make enemies.

Dear Drs. Snyder and Forbus,
I write to you with mixed emotions. Two years ago, you provided
me an opportunity to launch my career after I completed my MBA.
Please know that I am grateful for the many positive learning and
working experiences from the past 2 years. Recently, however, an
opportunity for a management position came to my attention, one
that allows me to build upon my experiences at Zimpal. Therefore,
I applied and was the successful candidate. I begin my new role on
February 17. My last day with you will be February 14—Valentine’s
Day, of all days.
Please know that I am committed to helping assure a smooth
transition. You will, no doubt, need to meet with me about the
status of my ongoing projects. You can depend on me going
forward as you have in the past to be an effective member of the
Zimpal Group.
Sincerely,
Sheree Sherazod
