A qualifying time of 56.2 helped Shane McElrath feel confident heading into his heat, which is exactly what he needed to win. Heading into the first turn in 2nd place, it didn’t take long for McElrath to steal the lead from Joshua Cartwright and carry on to take the win. With a heat race win, McElrath had a good gate pick for the main event,
helping him rocket up to the front of the pack. Staying near the front, McElrath had a clear view of what was going on ahead of him; Stewart had problems which also caused problems for Audette and Bisceglia and McElrath steered clear of the carnage putting him into 2nd place, right behind Jeremy Martin. On lap 6, Plessinger found an opportunity to slip passed Shane and made it happen. McElrath ran the remainder of the race falling back into 4th place but recouping himself and finishing just inside the podium. After St Louis, McElrath is still holding down the 8th position with a 10 point lead on Justin Hill in 9th place.
