Modifications have been made to the radiators as well as the exhaust system, improving performance and weight distribution. The radiators have grown some and they’re angled directly towards the incoming airstream, allowing them to stay cool under the high demand of race conditions. The wraparound exhaust improves mass concentra- tion as well as power development, moving the back of the pipe further up which allows the muffler position to be closer to the center mass of the motorcycle.
The engine mapping is obviously one of the most obvious and exciting improvements of the 2019 model. It’s able to be tuned in multiple ways, including dual-mode switchable engine mapping, which can be accomplished with just one push of a button, allowing the rider to change their engine characteristics on the fly. The new YZ250F has borrowed some traits from it’s bigger brother, featuring a smartphone-based engine tuner that’s accessible by connecting to the bike’s CAN-bus network via Wi-Fi. The Power Tuner app is available on both Android and iOS and is capable of adjusting the air-fuel ratio, ignition timing, and recording telemetry data -- as well as monitoring maintenance and diagnosing things such as engine hours, etc...
