If you take a look down the rider list of any vet class, you are destined to see names that have once filled the charts of professional series’. The
Vet (30+) class was no different, with names such as Matusek and Kelly jockeying early on for the title. There was also another name, a man by
the title of Taylor Painter, who knew within that he had all of the tools to solidify himself as champion. A third place start in moto number one, saw him trailing both Jeremy Cook, and Andrew Matusek. He would settle into his groove early on, finding a perfect harmony through the ten command- ment’s, with a double-triple combo. With both he and Matusek, escorting each other to the front of the field,
the number 44 of Painter would trail Andrew for the duration of the moto, as an ecstatic #41 would go on to claim the win. Seeing the emotion
of the Georgia native, Painter made mental note to receive those emo- tions by the end of the week. Coming off the second place ride, Painter’s momentum was on quite the high, yet a tenth place start pushed his plans to the wayside for a brief moment. Never one to back down, he would slowly tread his way up the mountain of a leaderboard, Matusek behind, but Kelly and Paul Perebijnos in front. Double P was doing his thing out in front, with the aforementioned just behind. Painter crept behind the 62 of Kelley, just narrowly missing the pass by moto’s end. It would be a battle royale for the third and final draw. Taylor had no time to waste if he wanted to take the trophy home, and his riding style reflected that mentality. Moving from second to first on lap number two, a subtle look over his shoulder along the infield triple, saw Matusek behind him. He would continue to relay forward, hitting his marks, and keeping the Kawi pinned along the billboard straightaway. With the number 41 echoing in his rear- view, he remained solid, all the way to the checkered flag. Kelly would finish fifth, enough to propel Painter onto the top step of the podium.
