Justin Bogle started to get his rookie season on track before the week off and expected to keep it moving in the right direction when the series resumed in Santa Clara. The Geico Honda rider put forth a solid qualifying effort which saw him throw down the ninth fastest lap time. Right around
where he should be, Bogle looked primed and ready for the racing to begin.
The heat race started with Bogle coming out of the first turn with a good start around 6th place. It was a good place to start but he had to make some moves if he wanted to avoid the semi. He made a quick move to get around Hansen for fifth and then set his sights on the final transfer spot held by Justin Brayton. Bogle put the hammer down and made the move on Brayton on the final lap executing a textbook pass. It was a great start of the night for Bogle and set him up nicely for the main.
Bogle rocketed out of the gate in the main event to grab the holeshot. His adrenaline started pumping instantly and he quickly tried to create some separation from the rest of the field. But Dungey would have none of it and put on an aggressive pass on the Oklahoma rider to take the lead late in lap one. That move threw Bogle out his rhythm causing him to get passed by three more riders very quickly until he was finally able to stop the bleeding in fifth place. Once the chaos of the first few laps were over, he dug in and tried to not let the top group get away. He kept Chad Reed who was in fourth fairly close for most of the race until Trey Canard came knocking. It was mid race and the first company Bogle had since that wild opening lap and he would prove to be no match for his buddy Trey and he would fall into and finish in sixth place. It was an impressive ride for Bogle once he recovered from the craziness during the first few laps and that sixth place finish was a career best for the rookie. If he can get another holeshot next weekend, you can count on him not letting the top guys by so easy and maybe earning yet another career best finish.
