TeamQualspec Plays
Important Role in Historic
Installation of Reactor Vessel
On Aug. 30, 2016, SCE&G and its partners placed a reactor vessel in the
containment building of V.C. Summer Unit 2 inside the containment at
the VC Summers Nuclear Station in Jenkinsville, South Carolina. This is
the first reactor vessel to be set at a new nuclear plant in the U.S.
in more than 30 years.
TeamQualspec, North Augusta Branch, is providing both Heat Treating and
NDE Services for the project. Our technicians are working in the containment
building on supports for the Steam Generator vessels. Additionally, we
developed RT procedures and other examinations to support construction
for Westinghouse and Carolina Energy Solutions for high energy piping and
containment vessel penetrations.
This cylindrical-shaped reactor vessel will house fuel for the unit and control
the nuclear reaction. The containment module will house the two steam
generators along with other related components.
VC Summers has on existing unit online now and is adding two additional
Westinghouse AP 1000 Units. TeamQualspec is also working on the same
type project at the Southern Company, Plant Vogtle site in Waynesboro, GA.
Two additional AP 1000 units are being added there as well.
