WHO –Technical Support on Measles Follow-up Campaign in Sudan 2019
Conclusions
The first and foremost conclusion that can be drawn from the experiences obtained over a one -
month period of providing technical assistance is that under the dynamic leadership Dr. Hanan a
new concept of data collection tool was introduced in WHO Sudan for the first time. In the past it
always remained a challenge to summarize and collect the monitoring findings from the field in
real time during any campaign beside deploying many Monitoring and Evaluation teams and
resources.
The data collection tool introduced for the first time in WHO Sudan will set new precedents for
other program to redesign their Monitoring & Evaluation tools for their program interventions.
There are new innovations in humanitarian data collection methods therefore WHO should align
with the new tools. During the current campaign we were able to provide real time updates on the
coverage of vaccination in states and locality, the reasons for non- vaccination and the source of
campaign information. Further the checklist contained indicators on the composition of
vaccination teams, management of campaign and the logistics arrangements. Through this online
data collection tool real time findings were shared with all the partners to best manage the Measles
campaign in Sudan.
There were challenges in the data collection due to the political and security situations in Sudan
beside all these challenges the data collection tool was used to submit more than ten thousand
observations from the field for the nine checklist deployed in the tool kit. Due to internet
connectivity issues in some states, the field monitors were not able to submit the reports on time.
