AFP Surveillance main indicators and program achievements in 2018
Non polio AFP rate
The global standard for any popula�on the Non-polio AFP rate is 2 per 100 000 under 15
years children. The Es�mated popula�on of children who were below 15 years of age in
2018 for Sudan was 17.938.611 A total of 579 AFP cases had been reported during 2018 and
all were discarded. The non-polio AFP rate was 3.1 per 100 000 under 15 years children. All
states had reported a rate of 2 and above AFP cases per 100 000 under 15 years children.
Characteristics of AFP cases:
The sex distribu�on of AFP cases was 58% males and 42% females. The distribu�on of AFP
cases by type of repor�ng sites was 88% from Government sites, 10% from private, and 2%
from community. The distribu�on of AFP cases according to the priority sites 81% from high
priority sites, 4% from medium priority sites, and 6% from low, and 9% from other sites.
The distribu�on of AFP cases by type of popula�on was 90.4% from resident popula-
�on,5.3% nomads and 3.8% from IDPs camps and 0.5% from refuges. The distribu�on of AFP
cases by month of onset is indicated.
The rou�ne vaccina�on status of the cases was 93% complete, 3% par�al and 4% had zero
dose. Distribu�on of AFP cases total vaccina�on 3 doses and above was 96.3%, one to two
doses was 1.4% and not vaccinates was 2.2% . Percent distribu�on of AFP cases for age 6-36
by number of OPV doses 2013-2018, percent distribu�on of AFP cases for age 6-59 by
number of OPV doses 2013-2018.
Reporting and investigation of AFP cases:
During 2018 AFP cases no�fied within 7 days were 91%, AFP cases inves�gated within 48
hours of being no�fied was 99%, stool samples arriving the laboratory within 3 days of being
collected 70% and was 97% for specimens arriving the laboratory within 3 days of being
sent.
