The king did so with confidence. Quickly, the smug expression on his face changed and he spat the bite of apple to the floor. “Why it is too soft, almost mushy and it has a peculiar sickly sweet taste,” said the King. “Is this some type of trick apple,” he demanded.
“Oh no,” said the Peddler. “In fact, I picked all of them from your tree in the courtyard right before my audience with you. If you doubt me, ask your gardener, who gave quite a fuss about picking your apples.” “What does this apple eating have to do with making me smart,” the King demanded.
The Peddler reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a pair of glasses. “Here, Your Majesty put on these glasses and look at the apples.” “I see perfectly well without reading glasses,” said the King. “But your majesty, these are not reading glasses. They are Magic Glasses” and the Peddler gave a knowing nod.
With some hesitation, the King took the Magic Glasses and put them on. An intense look of surprise came over his face as he now looked at the apples while wearing the glasses. “They look so different now,” said the King. “They are no longer just black and white, as each is different.”
“That’s correct,” said the Peddler. “They are each different and with your glasses and a little practice, you can tell the subtle differences not only in fruit but in people.”
