I could tell that the Peddler had the King’s interest now. Let’s listen.
“What do you mean?” asked the King. “Well, if you look at the ‘bad’ apples while wearing the glasses, you will notice that they are not all black as before.” “Yes, you are right about that,” the King had to admit.
“And the third ‘bad’ apple that tastes quite good, more closely resembles the first ‘good’ apple now that you have the glasses.” Again the King agreed. “Now notice how the second of the white apples, the one that was too soft and not good tasting, no longer is the same as the first white apple, the good tasting one.”
“This is interesting but how will this make me smart?” asked the King. “Well, your Majesty, when all others only select the two white apples only to find one of them bad, you will select one black and one white apple, both of them being good.” “A good parlor game but of limited value,” said the King.
“You are of course correct but these glasses will help you in evaluating more than just apples. It will help you be a better judge of all things, including people,” said the Peddler. The King’s eyebrows raised, as this last statement obviously piqued his interest. “Better judge of all things, including people?” he asked.
