do differently the next time something
like this happens?
The teacher Crow came over and asked what was going on. I was so upset I kept saying that Carl stole my shiny thing. Now I know that you know that when you get really upset you turn off your brain. My teacher was trying to get me to calm down and think about what had happened rather than just making myself angry.
But you know what? When you get angry like that (or sometimes really sad) and you “turn off your brain” you can’t hear a thing the teacher or your parent is saying, even if it is true.
I know that you have already figured out what happened next, Cosmos became Timmy Timeout.
The teacher sent me to sit in the tree that was as far from the crow class as possible. She told me to sit there and think about what happened. She wanted me to be honest and to be able to tell her what I told myself to cause me to become so upset. Then she said that I had to come up with a better way I could have handled the situation.
