Connie said that Cal is also telling himself that he is being treated unfairly. “He wants things to go his way and if that does not happen, he makes himself sad.”
“Cal can make himself sad if others are too busy to visit with him or even if they are just making suggestions about how he should do something. Come to think of it, he is sad a lot.”
Connie did a good job explaining why Carl was so angry and Cal was so sad. Then I asked, “So you don’t tell yourself the silly things like Carl and Cal?”
Connie then told me, “That’s right, I tell myself things that make sense. Right now I am telling myself that Carl and Cal went home hungry because they got too angry or too sad and I am not going to do that.”
