593 M i. Herewini Rapihana [2689] was born on 30 Nov 1895, died on 6
Aug 1915 in Gallipoli at age 19, and was buried in Chunuk Bair
Cemetry CWGC - Anzac. The cause of his death was Killed in
Action WW1 at Anzac, Gallipoli.
Rapunga Kupu Akoako: Herewini Rapihana; Private#16/580 enlisted
in NZ Maori Contingent on 1 Feb 1915 and embarked on the
HMNZT Warrimoo (he was previously in the 11th North Auckland).
He was Killed in Action at Anzac on 6 Aug 1915 and now lies in
Chunuk Bair. He was issued the 1914-15 Star, the British War
Medal, Gallipoli Medallion and the Victory Medal for his service. Herewini Rapihana
The theatres of war he served in; (1) Balkan in 1915 - was fought between the Central
Powers, represented by Austria-Hungary, Croatia, Germany and the Ottoman Empire on
one side and the Allies, represented by France, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, and the
United Kingdom (and later Romania and Greece, who sided with the Allied Powers) on
the other side (2) Egyptian in 1915 to 1916.
