The tour was orchestrated by Bayla Balaban of the Bishop White Committee, a passionate team of collectors and volunteers
dedicated to preserving and promoting the ROM's East Asian collections. The stunning display of art from different dynasties
ignited engaging discussions, with participants voicing their distinct perspectives on cultural heritage and historical significance.

Balaban's eloquent narration was an absolute standout—her use of metaphors, comparisons, and an impressive memory for
historical dates added life to the tour. Among the innumerable treasures, Balaban's recollection of a Tang Dynasty sculpture
depicting a woman playing polo was striking. Her clear delineation of how this piece embodied the early signs of feminism in
China was engrossing, captivating the group as they marveled at the sculpture—an era of female empowerment encapsulated in
    delicate curves and fine lines.

Philip, Chris,

                                                                                   artifacts' intricacies and depth.

“The committee is eager to engage more with the Chinese and East Asian community, to champion and celebrate the heritage.
We aim to draw people back to their roots, facilitating their understanding of their origins," Balaban said.

The Bishop White Committee, composed of dedicated volunteers passionate about ROM's East Asian collections, has given over
$2.5 million in support of these collections to date. They've also established a separate endowment fund for conservation and
preservation, benefiting numerous critical Chinese paintings.

Their ambition stretches beyond the ROM's walls. As Cheong stated, they endeavor to foster learning about China, Japan, and
Korea through the publication of newsletters, the presentation of research programs, and organizing family events. They've
extended their support to the East Asia Library and established an endowed Chair of Chinese Art and Archaeology and an
endowed Curatorship of Japanese Art & Culture. The committee's latest project is creating an annual funding for a summer intern
for the section which will add immensely to the body of research at the ROM.
