STEP 4: ESSAY

Why is it important to know about our culture? There are many cultures around the
world, but our culture shows us who we really are. Ecuadorian culture is recognized for

three important aspects: its language, religion, and food.
The first aspect is that Ecuador has different languages. [ Most people in Ecuador speak

Spanish. However, in the Highlands and Amazon regions some people speak Quichua. Most

people think that this language defines Ecuadorians. ]
Another aspect is the religion in Ecuador. Most people are Catholics. [This religion

which dominate the country is not considered as a religion in some small towns.] [People in
small towns believe that the only God is the nature. For example, the sun, the moon, the

stars.]

The final aspect is that Ecuador has different kinds of food. [For example, in the coast
region people eat seafood such as shrimps, shells, and the most important dish called

“encebollado”.] Also, in some holidays people prepare unique dishes. On Christmas they
prepare turkey with some sauces. On the day of the death, people cook “colada morada” and

“guaguas de pan.”

As a conclusion, it is important to know about your own culture. Because, culture defines
yourself, it is an important part of you. People must know about traditions, religions, and

important languages.
