Contact a REALTOR you can TRUST
You do NOT have to use a real estate agent but you want to be very
careful with one of the biggest transactions you will be involved with in
your lifetime. You really should have someone who is licensed and is
bound by a set of ethics.
Typically, the seller pays the Realtors commission; do you really think the
seller is going to pass the savings along to you?
Having an agent who can screen properties, show them to you when
you’re available and guide you through the process is worth every penny,
oh wait, you’re not paying anyway! There is really no reason not to have
a real estate agent represent you as a buyer, none that I can think of.
This isn’t a sales pitch, I just don’t see any reason why anyone would pass
on this one. As they say in Law, “only a fool represents himself”.
If you do use a real estate agent, and I think I laid out why you should,
find one you can TRUST. Don’t pick someone who is desperate or weak,
you’re better off going at it alone in that case. If someone is desperate
for your business, they’re usually in a financial mess of their own. You
don’t want that person giving you guidance if they can’t even balance
their own checkbook. A good real estate agent, or anyone in business
for that matter, should want the deal, but never need the deal. Stay
away from the needy ones, let them practice with someone else.
