ADAM’S
STORY
Adam Graham. Millfield Swimming Captain. Joined
in Year 7 at Millfield Prep. Competitive national-level
swimmer and former Captain of School.
I began my Millfield swimming journey in September 2017,
when I made the decision to leave home in Hong Kong and
join Millfield Prep in Year 7. It was without a doubt one of
the best decisions I’ve ever made, and since then I’ve
worked my way from county level all the way up to the
international stage. In the summer of 2023, I finally got the
international call-up I had dreamt of, representing GB at
the European Junior Championships and England at the
Commonwealth Youth Games.
Swimming at Millfield has taught me to embrace being
uncomfortable and to understand that progress is not
linear. I’ve also learnt a lot in the way of processing
disappointment as well as success. Being a captain has
given me a platform to support others and exercise my
leadership skills, as well as learn from my teammates and
get to know them on a personal level.
When you swim for Millfield, you don’t just swim for
yourself but for the whole team. There’s something special
about putting on that iconic green cap and being part of
something bigger than yourself. I truly believe that there
are very few, if any, programmes that are better than
Millfield, from the elite-level coaches to the incredible
facilities, the building blocks for success are in place. There
aren’t many other places I can train alongside Olympians
and follow in the footsteps of a rich programme history.
The next step in my career is to make it onto a senior
international team, whether that be at the European/World
Championships or the Commonwealth/Olympic Games.
Following my time at Millfield, I’m taking a year out to
swim and work in Australia, before heading to college in
America to continue my swimming dream.
