TRIPS

Norway at Easter. Known for its breathtaking
mountain scenery and excellent ski facilities, Voss
proved to be the perfect destination for a fun-
filled, action-packed week in the snow.

The trip offered students of all skill levels the
opportunity to enjoy professional ski instruction,
with groups tailored to complete beginners
through to more advanced skiers. The days were
spent exploring a wide variety of slopes, improving
techniques, and, most importantly, having a great
            time on the mountain.
In addition to skiing, students took part in a
range of evening activities, including team games,
quizzes, and cultural experiences. The trip also
            encouraged independence, responsibility, and
friendship, as students supported each other both
            on and off piste.

            Hockey trip to Barcelona
Easter saw the Year 9 and Year 10 hockey players
travel to Barcelona to take on some of the most
            prestigious clubs in Spain.

It was pleasing to see both the girls and boys teams
develop across their four fixtures starting with
Athletica Terrassa and ending with FC Barcelona
HC. Millfield was wonderfully hosted at the various
clubs, and they enjoyed the sights and excursions
            in their downtime.

So much was learnt both on and off the pitch,
friendships formed, and memories made for our
            young aspiring hockey players. 05

            Year 9 battlefields trip

The History and Politics Department arranged a
three-day visit to the First World War Battlefields
sites in Ypres, Belgium and the Somme in France
at the end of March for Year 9 students. The
trip started with a visit to Langemark cemetery,
one of only four German cemeteries in Flanders.
The Saturday was spent exploring the Somme
where the group visited Vimy Ridge trenches and
the Thiepval memorial, followed up by a visit to
Lochnagar Crater and the battleground around
Newfoundland Park. Students also had the
opportunity to visit the graves of their relatives
who were killed in the war. In the evening, we
attended the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin
Gate. On the Sunday, we had time for one last visit
to the Passchendaele Museum, where students got
to understand more fully the conflict in Flanders
as well as walk through dugouts and trenches. The
trip was extremely moving and was enjoyed by all
            the students.
