ACADEMIC
The second day centred on enriching student
experiences. Lower Sixth students visited Bristol,
Bath, and Oxford universities, participated in
workshops on alternative qualifications and
attended sessions preparing them for the UCAS.
Year 9 enjoyed creative workshops in collaboration
with The Paper Birds Theatre Company, fostering
storytelling and creativity, followed by a Science
Day featuring interactive biology, physics, and
chemistry sessions. Year 10 visited Bristol,
exploring the city's role in the transatlantic
slave trade, and a Creative Day themed around
‘translations,’ integrating art, food technology,
media, product design, English, and languages
through innovative cross-curricular projects.
These days inspire students to engage critically
and creatively with real-world themes while
collaborating across disciplines. 03
Inaugural Computational Shield
Millfield proudly hosted the first-ever SW Regional
Computational Thinking Shield in November,
welcoming 114 bright young minds from across the
South West. Organised by Millfield’s Computer
Science Department, the competition aimed to
inspire and challenge students in the fields of
problem-solving, teamwork, and logical thinking.
The event featured five rounds of complex
puzzles, designed to test participants' ability to
break down problems, think critically, and work
effectively in teams. With students from a mix of
state and independent schools spanning a wide
geographical area, the competition provided a
unique opportunity to foster curiosity, creativity,
and collaboration. The atmosphere was electric, 04
with a palpable buzz in the room as students
enthusiastically tackled each problem.
