Sports Leadership Qualification
– Level 1
This MAP provides an opportunity for students
to become leaders in sports. They acquire and
develop, through both practical and theoretical
work, five key transferable skills, consisting of
problem solving, teamwork, communication, self-
belief and self-management. Throughout both the
autumn and spring terms, they study two units;
03 establishing leadership skills, followed by planning,
04 and assisting in leading, and the review of sport/
physical activities. This is a hands-on course,
that is both engaging and incredibly rewarding.
Throughout the course students run events to
primary school students in the local community,
giving them the opportunity to put their skills into
practice.
Drama – costume design
and lighting
Students who love drama and want to learn more
about what goes on behind the stage have the
opportunity to work with specialist theatre staff
involved in theatre lighting as well as costume
design. They learn about the essential aspects of
lighting design, from the basics of light and colour
to the types of lights and equipment a lighting
05 designer uses. As costume designers they get to
learn how to tell a story through clothing, using
the language of fashion to help express aspects
of a productions setting, mood, and characters.
Working as part of the technical design team,
students then learn to bring their designs to life for
one of the major productions staged in the Meyer
Theatre.
Green Power
04 Our MAP activity is designing and building an
05 electric race car, which are then raced, competing
in a field of 60 teams from across the country. It
includes boys and girls from all years. Greenpower
is a charity promoting STEM in education by
organising an electric race series. The school has
two cars – one competing in the 11-16 years age
class and one in the 16-24 years age class.
